REVIEW: Corsair Vengeance MM200 Standard Edition Gaming Mouse Mat

Review: Corsair Vengeance MM200 Standard Edition Gaming Mouse Mat

By: Christopher “Synther” Wilson

PDXLAN in November of 2012 held a food drive in which we produced 12.5 tons of food to be donated and were featured on a local Portland, Oregon news station.  Corsair gave attendees that brought 20lbs of food a Vengeance MM200 Standard Edition Gaming Mouse Mat.  This mouse pad comes in multiple sizes and this is the more portable version but is a very comfortable size, especially for going to a LAN.

Right off the bat, I should state that I generally dislike cloth mouse pads.  The edges fray, they attract dirt and dust, and it usually feels like your dragging your mouse through pudding.  For this reason, I generally stick to solid mousing surfaces, such as those made by Func Industries.  I was pleasantly surprised that the Corsair MM200 does not feel like a slab of three day old pudding, however!

The MM200 offers a good surface that allows the mouse to track extremely evenly.  I was amazed at how smooth the mouse tracking was with this surface.  I generally keep my Logitech G500 Gaming Mouse set to 3500DPI and 1000 reports/second and this mouse pad made that feel even smoother.  As I stated, the size is good for traveling and just about perfect for gaming at a LAN event.  In addition to the excellent tracking surface, the MM200 also offers a very comfortable “cushion” feeling below the hand.  This is something that I’ve generally overlooked before now and I can see that this added level of comfort may help anyone that is interested in a more ergonomic setup for their mouse.  Especially if you are like me and play games for several hours at a time.  I’ve actually been using the MM200 on top of my custom made Func MBA Archetype!

The bottom of the MM200 is covered in a rubber grip that holds the table you set it on very well without slipping or moving at all.  This is definitely something that manufacturers of solid mouse surfaces should look at.  I’m sorry, but the rubber feet idea is just not usually adequate, especially if you have a glass top desk.  Cover the entire bottom of the surface frame with a giant rubber grip foot and call it good.  Corsair gets huge points in their design and how they did the grip.

Ultimately, if you’re looking for a new mousing surface that isn’t going to break your wallet, you should really take a look at the Corsair Vengeance MM200 Standard Edition Gaming Mouse Mat.
